Several reference specimens are supplied in powdered form for use as an internal displacing standard or as a reference for other diffractometer measurements. The silicon supplied is prepared from a stock of refined silicon that was calibrated against a standard spinel (a=8.0831Å). It is not identical to SRM-640 supplied by NIST. The other materials have been synthesized especially for The Gem Dugout
