Ag-behenate The long-spacing reference material for calibration of the low-angle region of a diffraction pattern.

Through arrangements with Eastman Kodak, Inc. The Gem Dugout now distributes silver behenate, C22H44O2·Ag, for use as an X-ray diffraction low-angle reference material. This material, with its layer spacing of 58.38Å provides a means to calibrate the angle range for CuKalpha from 1.5 to 20 °2theta. The material is available in 4 gram aliquots only. For use of this material consult the following reference: Blanton, T. N., et al. (1995) JCPDS-International Centre for Diffraction Data round robin study of silver behenate. Sodalite An intermediate spacing reference material starting at 6.3Å.

This material is a natural gem grade material from Brazil with a primitive cubic cell that fills the need of more peaks than silicon for calibration of the 2theta scale. It has the nominal composition of Na4Si3Al3O12Cl and a cell parameter of 8.8799±0.0001Å.
